Across The Miles - Survivor

A magical rock ballad that aptly captures the depth of intense longing.

Lyrics

When I'm all alone on a distant path
And my ticket home has been torn in half
Oh, I can hear your voice, girl I can feel your touch
Across the miles tonight

On the road again, will it always be
That the dream gets changed on it's way to reality
Oh, but the thought of you, strange how it pulls me through
Across the miles tonight

And I am sending you this message through the wires tonight
Just close your eyes and hold on tight
And here I am, concentrating girl with all my might
Now the sound of your laughter trails off through the midnight sky

As the miles go by, cities come and go
When you close your eyes and listen to the radio
Girl, can you hear my song, the signal is clear and strong
Across the miles tonight

And I am sending you this message through the wires tonight
Just close your eyes and hold on tight
And here I am, concentrating girl with all my might
Now the sound of your laughter trails off
Across the miles

Juke Box Hero - Foreigner

In Tokyo, Japan, on August 10th 1985, one of my favourite bands performed at the Super Rock Festival.  This is a live recording of their smashing hit Jukebox Hero they performed at this event.

The lyrics of this song represents to me one's dreams and the realization thereof.  In the depths of despair, frustration and disillusionment a single moment within the brilliance of perspective could transform your life.  A split second of sudden realization of one's life's purpose could realign goals and plans to harmonize with inner most desires and the relentless pursuit of discovered treasure may result in authenticity and genius.  I hope you enjoy this track as much as I always do.

Lyrics

Standing in the rain
with his head hung low

Couldn't get a ticket
it was a sold out show.
Heard the roar of the crowd
he could picture the scene.
Put his ear to the wall
then like a distant scream.
He heard one guitar
just blew him away

Saw stars in his eyes
and the very next day.
Bought a beat up six string in a secondhand store

Didn't know how to play it
but he knew for sure
That one guitar
felt good in his hands.
Didn't take long to understand.
Just one guitar
slung way down low

Was a one-way ticket
only one-way to go.
So he started rockin' ain't never gonna stop

Gotta keep on rockin'
Someday he's gonna make it to the top.

And be a Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes
He's a Juke Box Hero.
He took one guitar stars in his eyes
Juke Box Hero he'll come alive tonight.

In a town without a name
in a heavy downpour

Thought he passed his own shadow
by the backstage door.
Like a trip through the past
to that day in the rain

And that one guitar made his whole life change.
Now he needs to keep rockin' he just can't stop -
Gotta keep on rockin' that boy has got to stay on top.

And be an Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes

He's a Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes.
Yeah
Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes
With that one guitar he'll come alive

Come alive tonight.
So he started rockin'
ain't never gonna stop

Gotta keep on rockin' -
Someday he's gonna make it to the top.

And be a Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes.
He's a Juke Box Hero
Juke Box Hero

Juke Box Hero got stars in his eyes
stars in his eyes.

For Your Babies - Simply Red

This must be one of the most beautiful songs by Simply Red.  The lyrics are especially meaningful and dear to me, as they remind of the innate wonder captured in a child, and takes me back to the magic of my own childhood with a reminiscent sense of nostalgia.

For Your Babies, by Simply Red

Video

Lyrics

You've got that look again
The one I hoped I had when I was a lad
Your face is just beaming
Your smile got me boasting, my pulse roller-coastering

Anyway, the four winds that blow
They're gonna send me sailing home to you
Or I'll fly with the force of a rainbow
The dream of gold will be waiting in your eyes

You know I'd do most anything you want
Hey I, I try to give you everything you need
I can see that it gets to you
I don't believe in many things but in you, I do

Her faith is amazing
The pain that she goes through contained in the hope for you
Your whole world has changed
The years spent before seem more cloudy than blue

In many ways your baby's controlling
When you haven't laid down for days
For the poor, no time to be thinking
They're too busy finding ways

And I, you know I'd do most anything you want
Hey I, I try to give you everything you need
I'll see that it gets to you
I don't believe in many things but in you, I do

Hey and I, you know I'd do most anything you want
Everyday I, I try to give you everything you need
We'll always be there for you
I don't believe in many things but in you
I don't believe in many things but in you
I don't believe in many things but in you, I do

my refuge ... my song

As the painter breathes life to an image on canvas
Does the musician do so on silence?

I feel the melodies
as they wash from my soul
the dust of life

And as the night is filled with music
and the cares that infest the day
are folding their tents like the Arabs
and as silently steal away

And singing along I scare away my woes
for this refuge I have found in song
as I crawl into the space between the notes
and curl my back to loneliness

my mediator to dimensions of spiritual and sensual
Oh sweet poetry of the air
If I were to give my emotion a sound
Could this be how feelings would sound?

If I were to begin life again
I’ll devote it to music
As the unpunished rapture
In my world of song

Welcome to the soundtrack to my life
in the world of my song
